I was stunned today when I heard Obama. How he is proceeding to prosecute the action against Syria is seriously flawed and cowardly. Flawed because he has no strategy. He has painted himself (and the rest of us) into a box. Cowardly because instead of stepping up and taking responsibility for his actions, he is spreading the responsibility by going to Congress. And he's waiting until they return from vacation! Huh? Vacation? YGTBFKM! He's talking about launching missiles to strike another nation, and he can't be bothered to bring Congress back from vacation. I am simply stunned.
Even if you know nothing about military or national security strategy, you've got to instinctively know this is wrong and likely to either do nothing or result in disaster. The blogosphere is alive with critiques of this insane policy. Some of the best writing on this craziness is found over at InformationDissemination. You can read it here. It's a pretty easy read that will give you a good synopsis on what is going on. I particularly liked the critique of Susan Rice. I mean, could there be a worse person for the job of National Security Advisor? Oh maybe...maybe they could go find a has been politician. Or maybe they could go get a college professor. Or maybe they could go get the woman who does my wife's nails. Don't think there'd be much difference amongst all of them.
If this wasn't so bad, it would actually be comical. But our position and prestige in the world has suffered almost irreparable damage under this guy. It is simply unprecedented.
I agree with your take on this, but can't say I am stunned. This is on a direct path from where he has always been - it is about him.
