Exodus

A lot of stories in the news in the last few days about the incredible exodus of people from the Middle East (mostly Syria) who are desperately trying to escape the death and devastation that has befallen them.  It is a sad, sad story.  But unfortunately one that is becoming more common.  And when I read those stories, the first thing that pops into my mind is...elections have consequences.  Our retreat from the world, our willing acquiescence to the like of ISIS and all their terror, our abandonment of friends in the region, our appeasement of the biggest state sponsor of terrorism...it's all a consequence of an election.  Of course, my opinion is only my opinion.  Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe there's nothing we can do and we should just sit on our hands.  After all, we have to keep up with Kim and Kanye and work on our handicap.  We have to wring our hands about the scourge of climate change as the greatest threat to our national security.  We have to do our best to ignore massive targeting of those charged with protecting us.  We have to do everything we can to divide people along racial and economic lines to maintain power.

But there are some pretty shocking and sad stories emerging.  You can read it here.  This is just the beginning.  Someone will someday look back at our retreat and marvel at how we could let this happen.
