Engineers vs Marketing

I'm a Marketing guy.  Well, technically Business Development, but colloquially known as Marketing.  We are the ultimate Rodney Dangerfields...no respect.  The technical folks basically disparage our work.  They like to think we don't do much but go to conferences, play some golf, sip some wine, and schmooze with anyone who happens by.  Of course, they also like the contracts that result from a lot of hard work.  But no whining.

Saw this Dilbert cartoon and it struck a nerve.  I can't even count how many times I've tried to get the technical folks engaged with the customer and it's always like pulling teeth.  They are always "too busy".  And don't even think about attending a conference.  They'd rather sit in their cubicles churning out work...I guess.  Or maybe, they don't really want to or know how to talk to someone.  Just kidding...of course.
